Re: What’s your Biggest Cooking War Wound Share Them Here

after going out and getting drunk after work one friday with some of the team i was on at 7 the next day to do breakfast, but being young and stupid i was coming home so late i thought i’d just go straight in to work., we had a wedding on the saturday for 150 or so and as i was on my own till 2 i just cracked on, while cutting the potatoes for roasting i decided to cut the pad off my thumb (which was never found excaim  excaim  excaim  )

had to have 6 stitches in the side of my hand when i cut through it whilst prepping swede, got a v shaped scar now

burnt mr eye whilst cooking a steak, took it from the grill and flaming glob of fat flew at me landed right on my lower lid,

got a scar on my thigh where i caught it on a cooling wire that was sticking out

got a scar just under my nose from where my old sous decided to swing a hand full of sauce boats at my face

Re: What’s your Biggest Cooking War Wound Share Them Here

during one of those busy christmas run ups I was butchreing the breasts off of carcasses for rolling. The birds werent quite defrosted and my hands went numb with the cold, took my eye off the game and slipped with my knife and sliced it straight to the bone of my index finger. Didny feel it cause my hand was so cold but when i pulled the knife out I could turn the top half of my finger more than 90 degrees, emergency dash to the doctors, 8 stitches and back for service by 7!!
Ive also done the duck fat thing, but with a duck breast that spat fat on my face as I turned it in the pan, no hair grew where the fat struck me for about 2 years, so no chance of me coming into the kitchen with stubble coz it made me look like a lepper   :chef:

Re: What’s your Biggest Cooking War Wound Share Them Here

While i was still at college we were doing a class on buffet work and we got to use new serated knifes, me being the space cake that i am was busy talking whilst drying my knife and cut a flap off skin off my left middle didge. Blood everywhere, the lecturer thought i was taking the piss until i passed out.

In my first job in a kitchen i was helping out in the hotels bistro i had just turned off the fryers which had been on for aout 5 hours. Whilst cleaning around the rim to remove the oil my hand and wrist slid into the hot oil. I has to stand with my hand in the sink for an hour or so then my parents had to take me to the hospital as my hand swelt up. Only a little scar on my wrist which cant be seen now as i got a tattoo to cover it.

A few more but it would just show how much of a clumsy bitch i can be at times grin

Re: What’s your Biggest Cooking War Wound Share Them Here

whilst working for 99 we had a table of 20 in and they all orderd ribe eye now on my section i clarified beef fat from my jus so this is what i used to sear the beef with so after putting all my pans on the solid to i put fat in one of them ( enough to go round all 10 pans) and when i went to star searing ( bout 10 mins later ) i had 4got that one had fat in and pulled that pan forward only to have the fat go all the way up my arm and hand instantly had a hand like a ballon and burst it with teeth to stop the swelling (to no avail) continued to sear cook and put up for chef in more agony than i care to remember! the partner at the time cried when she seen my hand!  LOL

and on christmas eve through my own stupidity in the same kitchen i blended the palm of my hand with a shitty wee tesco number it was ####### horrific but very funny!!!!  LOL  again continued service!!
and lastly after a horrific few months working 15 to 16 hrs a day at chrimbo i walke hme totally knackered and sneezed and the force of the sneeze tore a muscle in my back!!!
also i would like to take this oportunity to thank cheff 99 for being the most cold hearted employer i have ever had ( no time off during any of my tragic mishaps and ther was a few!!!!)

Am sure your minds will be boggling as too what i was doing for a one armed chef LOL
I went into work with a bad case of conjunctivitis, the whites of my eyes where read, i also was deep frying some leek and the oil spilled my hand, automatically i reached for my cloth and wiped my hand and all the skin came of. I promptly wrapped it with blue tape and got on with sat nite service….Also got Salmonella, it knocked me for six at work, but after work i ended up in hospital, then of work for weeks on end.

Re: What’s your Biggest Cooking War Wound Share Them Here

i’d just bought a new boning knife and it had been sent to my house along with a few other things i had ordered

so i was walking out to the car to go to work with all my new toys in one arm so i could open the motor, got in to the car and as i sat down my new knife, which was in the middle of the bundle hit my chest at a funny angle bust up through the bubble wrap and stabed me in the chin!!!!! the blade went in through the middle of my chin and the blade tip went right up to just below my lip (didnt stab right through, instead it went up inside my bloody face!!).

looked in the mirror only to see a perfect stream of blood the same length as the wound running down my face and soaking my t shirt.

got out the car into the house quick cup of t while i waited for the bleedin to stop long enough to get a dressing on then headed to work where i spent the next 2 days holding blue roll to my face, still catch the scar from time to time when i shave!!  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL  LOL

Bubbling maple caramel coated wooden spoon stuck to my forearm…nasty 3rd degree burn
Not sure what hurt more the next day, the burn on my right arm or the tetanus shot on my left arm.

Re: What’s your Biggest Cooking War Wound Share Them Here

WEll this one probably belongs in stock pot nightmares but hey…
as a first year apprentice I was doing a large chix stock, chef asked me to get it off the stove and it was still bubbling with a layer of unskimmed fat on top…..there was bit of grease on the floor and it was all over. It slipped from my hands and went straight down on it’s a$$ and all the liquid contents jumped right up and got me in the face and all over my body….nice coating of bubbling chicken fat, boy did I scream! Couldn’t work for two weeks as I, pardon the pun, couldn’t stand the heat. So with ice packs all over me I was rushed straight to the hospital and in such a state of shock I have no idea what happened next. Thankfully I have no scarring from that, just lucky I guess.
