had a fun trip into town this week that involved me getting asked to compete in this for charity. its slowly starting to really annoy me. soooo many chilli recipes, so many different techniques and very little time to try and mess about with them to get my own recipe. i think i pretty much know what im doing now though, after 2 days of searching through books and the internet heh.
i was more posting the thread just to say that its on if anyones in the area might be worth a look, apart from the chilli cook-off there is belly dancing, posh chilli plants for sale and morrocan food stalls. it will be held in flemming square outside Chili Lime Deli that organised it. i wish i knew a little more in advance mightve been nice for some of you guys to be able to compete heh.
Proceeds go to Nightsafe, they are a local charity who feed and house homeless children.
ill post my recipe for the chilli after the competition on satarday
Brilliant, lets have that recipe Chef1, I once saw someone put pasta sheets with this kinda thing, he layered it up with cheese sauce then another layer of of the mince and baked it…..........it was really good, can’t remember what it was called but I tell you what…....it would have won comps too, genius!
an original chilli recipe contains no beans and to use them in an american chilli contest would get you disqualified instantly, also it uses pieces of cheap steak instead of mince. (i used kidney beans in this recipe though ) the recipe was taking a while to write out because i didnt use just 1 recipe. i took techniques and little bits from a lot of places and im trying to work it out to do it for a smaller ammount of people than what i made.
i used the heston book for how to cook the beans and the finishing touches.
maybe if your so confident you could beat my own recipe with a basic 1 bingo/chef1, i say bring it on!

Kidney beans, such an original touch, who’d have thought that would work
Unfortunately, chef1 & bingo both have jobs & lives, so at a risk of sounding presumptuous they probably have better things to do.
Maybe Email Mrs Chef1, no doubt she’ll whoop your @ss
what you don’t use a mole? perhaps a little bitter unsweetened chocolate grated in at the end? c’mon, my last boss’s wife was Mexican and he would always return with these great things…only used in staff though…..

Got to say this is turning into another classic canteen thread.
Two things I would like to say the first is to Murdrobe…. go freestyle with your presentation serve in a good old fashioned jacket spud.Bit of grated cheese on top…..............
go on you know you want to!!
Second point to Chef1 ....
I really think the time has come for Murdrobe to featured soon as Chef of the month.

Phil.
I’ll see if we can shoe horn him inbetween Tom Aikens and Michael Canies
Would it not be worth loosing one of those chefs for a chance to see the Murd in action, I’ve seen some of his pictures from college on the old canteen and must say, for comedy value would be well worth upsetting a real 2 star chef….........maybe they could even learn something from the legend that is the Murd…...............what that unemployed commis don’t know about cooking ain’t worth knowing!
