The TUCO Chef of the Year 2014 Competition, sponsored by Major International, is open to any chef, up to and including Senior Chef de Partie, working at a TUCO member institution. Evidence of grade/position must be submitted with an endorsement from your line manager.
The competitions aims to act as a showcase of the culinary skills that university chefs’ possess, while also providing them with an opportunity to measure themselves against and learn from their peers.
Culinary competitions form a key part of the development of many chefs careers, providing competitors with training, new experiences and recognition for the important role that they play in the wider community, through innovations in the areas of health and nutrition.
Major International is gearing up for its second culinary challenge and mini series of display classes in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs.
The first heat, held at South Devon College in Paignton received over 160 entires and there were some excellent results achieved. The second heat due to take place on May 16th will be held at Durham College. The competitions include live and static display classes as well as the hot live culinary challenge and the restaurant skills class.
A new category for 2014 is the mini pastry assortment class where contestants will have to incorporate a Major fruit base in two of the items.
Winner of the culinary challenge will receive £500 and £250 for their college, while both the static class winner and restaurant skills winner will each win £100.
