Food style

Keith and Nicola devote a lot of their time to finding the finest ingredients for their cooking, they are mostly sourced locally and respect the traditions of haute-Cuisine: painstaking preparation, freshly made stocks and sauces and finally an excellent attention to detail.

The pair like to be creative when it comes to dish creation using modern dishes on otherwise traditional themes. Locally caught seafood and Scottish lamb, deer and game birds are the staples of their ever-changing menu as is their use of exotic herbs and spices.

Awards and accolades

Braidwoods, Dalry is run by husband and wife team Keith and Nicola Braidwood. In 2000 they won a star in the Michelin Guide UK, an accolade the duo have been fortunate enough to retain every year since making Braidwoods the longest running Michelin star holder in Scotland.

That same year, Keith won Chef of the Year from the Scottish Chefs Association following in the footsteps of the likes of Andrew Radford, the Atrium; Nick Nairn of Nairns and David Wilson from the Peat Inn. A year later the Good Food Guide named Braidwood their Scottish Restaurant of the Year. In 2016 the Good Food Guide also scored Braidwoods 5 out of 10.

Other notable awards include an Egon Ronay star in 2005, which lists the top 200 restaurants. During this year only a handful of Scottish restaurants were acknowledged on the list.

The AA has also said that their restaurant is “the best restaurant in Scotland”. Nicola is also a former Scottish Young Chef of the Year.
