Biography

He was trained at the Oberoi Hotel group in India and became chef de cuisine after his training was finished. Only three years later, in 1993, he immigrated to England: “I came to London with nothing but ambition and love of Indian food”. This ambition quickly brought him success.
Vineet was disappointed in the way Indian food was presented in London saying it was ‘oily and greasy food’. His sole aim was to show the UK how authentic Indian food really looked like.

In 1999 Vineet opened the restaurant Zaika with a partner, which, after a while, moved from Chelsea to Kensington High Street. Zaika was awarded a Michelin Star two years after it had opened, which made Vineet the first Indian chef-restaurateur to receive this distinction.

Rasoi

In 2004 he opened his own restaurant Rasoi also in Chelsea. Guests, gourmets and critics all praised Rasoi which led to the restaurant receiving several honours. In 2006 it was also awarded with a Michelin star in the Michelin Guide UK.

A short time after this accolade Vineet opened two sister-restaurants, both called Rasoi by Vineet, in Le Saint Geran, Mauritius and Geneva, Switzerland. The latter received a star in the Michelin Guide Switzerland 2009. This recognition has made Vineet the only Indian chef to have received two Michelin stars and he is currently only the second chef in the UK to hold stars in more than one country.

After 12 years Vineet closed Rasoi in 2016. The restaurant reopened a year later as Vineet Bhatia London after a complete overhaul. It wasn’t long after opening that the 32 cover restaurant received high praise from customers and critics alike. In October of that year the restaurant received its first star in the Michelin Guide UK 2018 and 3 rosettes from the AA Restaurant Guide.

A week later it was announced via the restaurant’s website and social media platforms that Vineet Bhatia London had closed with the last service being Sunday, October 8, 2017.

Cookbooks

With eight restaurants worldwide, numerous awards and countless Michelin stars to his name Vineet is also an accomplished author. In 2010 he published his first cookbook revealing more than 150 recipes. Recipes that had made the then ‘Rasoi’ a household name.

In October 2016 Vineet released his second book, ‘My Sweet Kitchen’ which focuses on traditional Indian desserts that can still be experienced and enjoyed in an Indian restaurant or along an Indian meal without recourse to ice creams, fudges or western desserts. In January 2017 ‘My Sweet Kitchen’ won the ‘National Category of Chefs’ at the World Gourmand Cookbook Awards.
