Facing stiff competition from nine other contestants at the Restaurant Show, Luke claimed the top spot for impressing the judges with his starter of sea vegetable minestrone, mussels and farfalle pasta, roasted fallow deer, blackberry, celeriac, sprouts and bacon for main and warm walnut almondine, ginger infused Bramley puree, caramelised cox apple for dessert.

The other finalists included Ben Champkin, sous chef at L’Enclume, David Davey-Smith, chef, from Royal Air Force Worthy Down, Karl O’Dell, senior sous chef from Petrus – Gordon Ramsay, Thomas Westerland, sous chef from Lucknam Park, Dean Westcar, head chef at Restaurant Hywel Jones by Lucknam Park, Kuba Winkowski, head chef at The Feathered Nest Inn, Will Holland, head chef at Coast Restaurant.
As the winner, Luke Selby is now part of the Craft Guild of Chefs National Chef of the Year 'Hall of Fame', which represents culinary excellence and offers the chance to meet and work with some of the most exciting industry names.
He also wins a range of special prizes including a once-in-a-lifetime trip to one of the world’s top restaurants, stagiaire opportunities, equipment from sponsors and chocolate workshops. Best of all, having won the life-changing title, James now has the chance to follow in the footsteps of some the country’s most successful chefs, such as Alyn Williams, Gordon Ramsay and Mark Sargeant who have all previously held the title.
