MasterChef: The Professionals

MasterChef: The Professionals winners include Steve Groves, Adam Handling, Jamie Scott, Steven Edwards and Anton Piotrowski. It showcases the next generation of chef who are judged by Marcus Wareing who holds two stars in the Michelin Guide UK.

It is a competitive cooking show aired on BBC Two and it is a spin-off from the main MasterChef series. Open to all professional working chefs it features any level from Michelin-starred kitchens to good old fashioned pubs. It first aired in 2008 and Gregg Wallace is the only original judge on the panel.

Over the years he has been joined by MasterChef judge John Torode, Michel Roux Jr. from two-Michelin-star Le Gavroche plus his then sous chef Monica Galetti.  In 2014, it was announced that Michel had left the show due to "a conflict in commercial interests" and he was replaced by two Michelin-starred Marcus Wareing.

The most recent winner in 2015 was Mark Stinchcombe, he is head chef alongside his wife Sue at Eckington Manor.  He said: "I did MasterChef to get our name out there, we had people in the next village not even knowing we were here! I wanted to showcase our food to a larger audience.

"I absolutely loved it and I wanted to showcase the food the MasterChef team were getting in for us. The hardest part was the critics, you’re working within an hour and fifteen minutes and you are trying to produce eight plates of food. I’d do it again - I think it’s a brilliant competition!"

He added: "It’s nice to get out of the kitchen and push yourself within a time limit – plus it’s fun, coming up with something which gets your style across. It’s an amazing experience and it’s nice to push yourself against other people and see how good you are."

In 2014 Jamie Scott took the MasterChef: The Professionals crown and has since opened his own venture The Newport, he said at the time: "I would recommend it to others but I wouldn't take it easily, there’s a lot of pressure and a lot at stake; it’s not for the faint-hearted.

"It was an amazing experience, working in those two restaurants I worked in and being with Marcus and Monica was absolutely amazing."

He added: "It was difficult going back to work as you expect Marcus and Monica to be there asking you about your dish and you’ve been used to cooking one dish rather than a full service but I never thought that cooking that one dish you could be so tired afterwards as I’m normally doing 60-70 covers."
