Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London has announced their participation in Farm Africa’s Dine for Good campaign, which is being re-launched this spring.
Dine for Good is Farm Africa’s annual restaurant fundraising campaign that unites the UK’s best fine dining destinations behind our belief in the power of food to bring people together, break down barriers and tell a story.
It is an opportunity for restaurants to demonstrate their commitment to global food sustainability and provide guests with the chance to contribute to Farm Africa’s important work as part of their dining experience.
Today, almost half of the world’s extreme poor live in sub-Saharan Africa. The vast majority work in agriculture. Farm Africa works on the ground in eastern Africa to fight poverty by unleashing farmers’ abilities to grow their incomes in an environmentally sustainable way.
By adding an optional donation of £1 per cover to their bill over a one or two month period, diners will be helping small-scale farmers in eastern Africa to grow more, sell more and sell for more.
Farm Africa Ambassador Ashley Palmer-Watts has supported Farm Africa for a number of years. As Chef Director of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Ashley, his team and their customers have raised more than £18,000 through the initiative over the years.
Ashley said “I’ve supported Farm Africa for a number of years and I’ve been fortunate to see first-hand how the funds raised positively impact local communities in eastern Africa for the long-term. Dine for Good is a simple and effective way for the UK restaurant industry to give back.”
As Dine for Good’s flagship restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal has committed to run Dine for Good throughout March and April 2019. We hope many more fine dining restaurants will join Ashley and his team in committing to take part and make a difference to the lives of small-scale farmers in eastern Africa.
Dine for Good is simple to set up, easy to manage, and has the potential to transform lives.
