World Street Feast - Scottish Seafood and craft beer pairing…who knew it could taste so good!

We recently staged two culinary shows treating guests to a bespoke tasting experience using Scotland’s finest seafood paired with our growing craft beer industry.

Glasgow’s Tall Ship, one of only five built in Glasgow and still afloat in the world today, provided the perfect space for our first showcase.

Former based Rogano (Glasgow) chef Andrew Cumming plated a journey from around the world - Mexican inspired hake tacos, fish and chips with beer battered langoustines, New York style lobster rolls and Indian inspired tandoori mackerel wraps.

The dishes were paired with Scottish premium craft ales and wheat beers including Fyne Ales, Loch Lomond Brewery, Stewart Brewing, Drygate, West Brewery, and Black Isle Brewery.

Fionn Hunter “It’s hard to pick a favourite dish of the night but I think the beer battered langoustine tails are definitely high on the list. They were succulent, juicy & downright delicious.” Fionn Fionn Fionn Blog

The second showcase down at London’s iconic Pop Brixton saw Scottish chef Mark Heirs, who’s experience includes cooking in various 3 Michelin star kitchens and some of the world’s best known hotels, serve up a street feast. This time, it was paired with Scottish premium lagers, ales and wheat beers from Harviestoun Brewery, Cairngorm Brewery, Broughton Ales, Innis & Gunn, Brewgooder and the Black Isle Brewery.

Adele “We were whisked over to New York for Lobster Rolls. Large succulent chunks of sweet lobster meat mixed with tangy mayo sprinkled with chives and a little paprika; and served in a sweet brioche roll. ‘Please sir can I have some more!’ ” Tartan Spoon Blog

Scottish fisherman Jimmy Buchan from BBC’s Trawlerman series joined guests to share first-hand ‘tales of the catch’, and Jamie Delap from The Brewers Association of Scotland shared his brewing secrets.

Guests of the street fest enjoyed the diversity of Scottish seafood used in a variety of world cuisines, helping to inspire and engage chefs and culinary stars of tomorrow.

Blackened Hake Tacos, Kale Slaw & Roasted Jalapeno Salsa
Beer Battered Langoustine Tails, Tartare Sauce
New York Style Lobster Rolls
Tandoori Spiced Mackerel Wraps, Marinated Cucumber & Onion Salad
Vanilla Waffles, Marinated Scottish Berries, Ricotta Cream
Seafood street food and beer is perhaps not the most likely pairing, but it works – the quality of both the seafood and the beers make them perfect partners.
