Michelin-starred chef Luke Butcher has announced he will be leaving Purnell’s after nearly 14 years of service at the restaurant.

In a post on Instagram, Luke thanked Purnell’s Chef Owner Glynn Purnell, his staff, and the countless guests and customers who frequented the restaurant.

In a statement, Luke said: “So after just shy of 14 amazing years at Purnell’s Restaurant I have made the decision to step down from my position as Head Chef and take my career in a new and interesting direction.”

Luke added: “Firstly I would like to thank Glynn Purnell for giving me the opportunity to steer the illustrious ship forward, for the constant support and teaching, and being there during some difficult personal moments, I think we’ve both been through it all during my time, so to have that wisdom and experience has been a blessing!”

“To EVERYONE that I’ve had the pleasure to work with over the years… thank you, you’ve all been a building block in creating such an epic place,” he said.

Commenting on Luke’s departure, Glynn said: “Our head chef, Luke has been a massive part of the Purnell’s family for over 13 years and now he is flying nest taking his career in a different direction. He will be missed but still a massive part of the family.”

“Good luck and thank you for everything.” Glynn added.

Discussing his plans for the future, Luke explained he would be taking time out to focus on his family after an incredible time spent at the restaurant.
