As we embrace the summer season and fire up the barbecues, crack open the beers and flip the burgers, it’s time to reflect on our achievements in the first half of the year! And we don’t just mean the ability to make the most incredible BBQ steak.

Throughout 2015, people have been stretching their muscles and digging out their sporty clothes to complete a whole host of challenges, including half and full marathons, cycles and treks in support of Farm Africa.  And there is still time for individuals and teams from across the restaurant industry to get involved.

RideLondon

Next month, a team from The Hinds Head in Bray will be taking on the Prudential RideLondon 100 cycle ride and will pedal the 100-mile route around the capital to raise funds and awareness for Farm Africa. Inspired by Kilimanjaro climbing chef, Ashley Palmer-Watts, the team wanted to try something different and collectively challenge themselves.

Ryan Osnowski, the restaurant’s Bar Manager explained why the team were putting themselves through the paces.
He said: “Farm Africa is a great charity which needs worldwide recognition. Working to end hunger is incredibly important and through this cycle, the team and I hope to raise lots of cash to help end hunger for more families in eastern Africa. The training has been difficult but the team have come together to take this on as a united challenge. We’ve definitely bonded and together we are confident we will have great fun on the day – we just need to cram in a little more training before then!”

Why do a challenge?

One in eight people around the world go to bed hungry every night. As individuals working in the restaurant industry, you know that food brings people together and is made for sharing – but still, hunger kills more people than AIDS, TB and malaria combined. This is a shocking fact and one which Farm Africa is working to change.

From marathons to Mount Kilmanjaro

By taking on a challenge as an individual or a restaurant team, you can help to end hunger.
