Albert Adrià was born in 1969 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, near Barcelona. He is probably most notably associated with his Michelin-starred older brother and celebrity chef, Ferran Adrià who ran the three Michelin-starred restaurant, El Bulli until its closure in 2011. During its peak it was voted the best restaurant in the world at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards for a record breaking five times.

After leaving school at the age of 15 Albert helped his brother by working at El Bulli where Ferran was head chef, he continued to work alongside his brother for 23 years where he learned how to create some of the world’s best gastronomical dishes, he would later use this experience to make his own name for himself in the culinary world.

During his first two years at El Bulli, Albert worked on every station in the kitchen imaginable before settling on becoming a pastry chef. When El Bulli was shut throughout the winter months, he would spend his time working in some of Europe’s best restaurants.

With this wealth of experience it came as no surprise when Albert set his sights on opening his own restaurant. With support from his brother, Ferran, Albert successfully opened his first venture - a modern tapas bar, Tickets and cocktail bar 41° Barcelona which quickly earned a Michelin star.

Since then, he has opened four more restaurants in Barcelona including the tapas bar Bodega 1900, the Mexican themed restaurants Hoja Santa and Nino Viejo, the Nikkei (a cuisine that fuses Japanese and Peruvian influences) inspired restaurant Pakta and Heart, a collaborative venture with Cirque du Soleil in Ibiza.

Albert’s latest project, Enigma, is set to open in Barcelona later this year.

Along with Tickets, both Hoja Santa and Nino Viejo have each earned a Michelin star.

Aside from his Michelin star status Albert has also won other numerous awards and accolades since he opened his first restaurant including the honour of being named The World’s Best Pastry Chef at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards.

Earlier this year Albert kicked off a 50 Day residency at Regent Street’s grand Hotel Café Royal. Tickets for the event were
priced at £150 which included a cocktail in the hotel’s Oscar Wilde bar followed by a tasting menu held in the Domino restaurant.

The residency was Albert’s first project outside of his hometown of Spain which originally was only meant to run for 50 days from February through to April but due to its popularity the unique pop up was extended for a further 60 days.
