Andrew Brownsword Hotels has announced the departure of Chris Simpson from Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park.

Having joined Gidleigh Park in January 2018, Chris enjoyed an award winning year heading up its kitchen with his skill recognised with a Michelin star in October 2018, won after just nine months in position and his first for his own kitchen.

Chris said: “It has been a huge honour to head up the kitchen at Gidleigh Park and I couldn’t be prouder of our achievement of winning a Michelin star – testament to the team I’ve had around me.  I would like to thank the Brownsword group for giving me this opportunity and for their support and encouragement.  I wish everyone at Gidleigh Park the very best in the future – it is a truly special place”

Chris previously held the position of head chef at Restaurant Nathan Outlaw for seven years, before taking over from two Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall at Gidleigh last year.

In a statement Andrew Brownsword Hotels commented: “Guests, the Brownsword family and our whole company have delighted in the dishes and food style that Chris brought to Gidleigh Park.  As his first lead chef role, we understand that the challenges and demands of the multiple outlets in a hotel kitchen versus a single restaurant operation aren’t for everyone and fully support his decision to take some time out.  We would like to thank Chris for all his efforts and look forward to the next exciting chapter for the Gidleigh kitchen which will be announced soon”.
