Princess Anne urges Britons to consider eating horsemeat


Princess Anne has urged Britons to consider eating horsemeat in order to improve standards of care for the animals in life.  The Princess Royal, a former British equestrian eventing champion, argued that horse owners may take better care of their animals if they believed they could profit from their meat after death.

Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs to open Café Football next month


Café Football, the football-themed venue from former Manchester United teammates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, opens in Westfield Stratford next month with two-Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall overseeing the new restaurant’s menu.

Tate Britain readies for re-launch of Rex Whistler restaurant


Tate Britain’s dining space is set to reopen as the Rex Whistler restaurant next week, following a multi-million-pound refurbishment at the art gallery on London’s Millbank.  The art-deco style, 85-cover restaurant will open on 19 November featuring a menu developed by head chef Nathan Brewster and overseen by food historian Joanna Cheetham, who specialises in historic British food trends.

Red faces at Sainsbury’s over Co-op food in Christmas advert


Eagle-eyed viewers have embarrassed Sainsbury's by spotting food from a rival supermarket chain in its Christmas advert.  They noticed three products from the Co-operative’s own-brand range in the chain’s television commercial.  The Truly Irresistible lemon torte, Christmas pudding and Christmas cake appear on a kitchen worktop halfway through the advert.
