Le Manoir waiter wins 2014 Gold Service Scholarship


James Fleming, chef de rang at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire, has been named as the 2014 winner of the Gold Service Scholarship.  He was presented with the accolade at a ceremony at London’s Claridge’s hotel on Monday night.

Former Masterchef contestant new head chef at Eastbury hotel


A TELEVISION star will be taking over as the new head chef of the Eastbury Hotel.  Matt Street, 29, appeared in the 2009 BBC series Masterchef: The Professionals.  The young chef made it through to the quarter finals of the television cooking competition before being eliminated.

Hull pub landlords call for freeze on beer duty in George Osborne's budget


PUB landlords are calling for beer taxes to be frozen to protect the region's watering holes.  A combination of cheap alcohol at supermarkets and the smoking ban have been blamed for the alarming number of pub closures over the past few years.  Now the British Beer and Pub Association is calling for beer duty to be frozen this year to help many hostelries stay afloat.
