Nominations are now open for the coveted “people’s choice” sustainability award, an accolade left in the hands of the pubic to determine the ultimate winner of the 2014 Footprint Community Vote.

Each year the hospitality and catering industry disposes of 3 million tonnes of packaging waste[1], emits 12.5 million tonnes of CO2[2] and consumes 34 million litres of water[3] and the Community Vote award provides a platform for businesses that are actively reducing their environmental impact to be acknowledged.

Speaking about the Footprint Awards Charles Miers, Managing Director of Footprint, said:

“The Footprint Awards were set up to recognise the numerous ways businesses and individuals now ensure sustainability is at the forefront of the foodservice industry.

“The “people’s choice” category, in particular, was specifically designed to showcase those businesses that may otherwise go unrecognised for the brilliant efforts they make towards responsible practice; an accolade made even greater because it is nominated and voted for by industry peers and members of the community who truly appreciate their worthy efforts.”

Any foodservice business can be put forward for the Community Vote, from a local tea room or road service café to a national restaurant chain. So if you know of a business in your area doing their bit for the environment and sustainability get online and get voting.

You can nominate your own business or another industry leader who has excelled in responsible practice by visiting the Footprint Awards homepage www.footprint-awards.com.

The winner will be announced at the 2014 Footprint Awards Dinner which will take place on Thursday 22nd May at East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, London.
