The Freemasons at Wiswell plan to mark The Glorious Twelfth tradition with Head Chef, Hywel Griffith, betting on bagging the first grouse of the season.

On the 12th August, The Freemasons at Wiswell will be celebrating the Glorious Twelfth, the biggest day in the shooting calendar amongst agricultural enthusiasts and foodies alike.  Head Chef Hywel Griffith, otherwise known as ‘H’, will be leading the way for The Freemasons this year.

Hywel is renowned in the community for his keen hunting skills and is at the forefront of the shoot determined to bag the first grouse of the historical season. The Head Chef, a skilled craftsman, will then serve a three-course meal designed to complement the fresh bounty after plucking, cooking and serving up the grouse straight from the shoot in the restaurant.

Paying homage to the ritual in Freemasons style, the team at Freemasons take their passion for the sport to the next level with a full day of interactive shooting and gastronomic creativity. The Glorious Twelfth has been a pinnacle event since the early 1800’s in the Lancashire country pursuits calendar.

The team at Freemasons are proud to continue this tradition, “This event means a great deal as a keen huntsman, chef and of course, the Freemasons heritage as a whole. I aim to be the first out there on the day! It will be great to see the reaction from our customers,” says Hywel.

The tickets for the event are £50 per person, which includes a three-course menu starting with Veloute of Sweetcorn and Roast Chicken Soup with Foie Gras Hotdogs. The main course will feature the First of the Season Grouse, Poached and Roasted, Beetroot and local Brambles with a toasted Croissant and finishing the menu with Souffle of Roast Banana with Sticky Toffee sauce.

With multiple awards over the past five years, including The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants and proud owners of three Rosettes in The AA Guide, The Freemasons at Wiswell has quickly become one of the Ribbly Valley’s most sought after destinations for food and drink.

Tables can be booked via the website www.freemasonsatwiswell.com or by calling 01254 822 218.
