Gaggan, Bangkok claims the top spot in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for a second consecutive year.

Now in its fourth year, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, revealed the 2016 list at an awards ceremony at the W Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand earlier this week.

Gaggan retains the award for The Best Restaurant in Asia and The Best Restaurant in Thailand awards respectively, both sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna.

After debuting on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2014 at No.17, Gaggan rose to No.10 last year on the global list and No.1 in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Chef Gaggan Anand opened his eponymous Bangkok restaurant in 2010 drawing inspiration from the street food of his home town of Kolkata. His approach is inventive, adventurous and highly individual, yet respectful of India’s culinary legacy.

The 2016 list features 10 new entries, including three from Japan and 13 from China while Singapore and Japan each have 10. With 13 nations represented, the 2016 list includes restaurants from more countries than ever before, showcasing a rich variety of dining experiences across Asia.

Tokyo's Quintessence earned the Highest Climber Award after climbing 29 places from numer 49 last year to number 20 this year. The Highest New Entry Award went to Mingles in Seoul making its debut on the chart at number 15.

Other notable awards on the list include French-born chef Paul Pairet who won the Chef Choice Award which is voted by fellow chefs on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list and Cheryl Koh went away with the award for Asia's Best Pastry Chef sponsored by Cacao Barry.

Earlier in the year Chef Margarita Forés from the Philippines was named Asia’s Best Female Chef 2016. The recipient of The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Chef David Thompson of Nahm in Bangkok and Long Chim in Singapore.
