Braehead Foods in association with The Staff Canteen and Highland Game have announced the ten finalists in the nationwide search for the 2014 Game Chef of the Year.

The confirmed finalists are:

Adam Rasburn, The Design House Restaurant, Huddersfield

Andrew Laycock, Wild Thyme, Perthshire

Brian Mcleish, Moonfish Café, Ellon, Aberdeenshire

Daniel Bland, Wheatsheaf, Doddington

James Foster, Loch Lomond Golf Club, Alexandria

John Traynor, The Finnieston, Glasgow

John Watson, Craig Millar @ 16 West End, Anstruther

Jonathan Cook, Greywall’s Hotel/Chez Roux Restaurant, Edinburgh

Stuart Galloway, Sheraton Grand Hotel, Edinburgh

Tom Van Zeller, Van Zeller Restaurants, Harrogate

Finalists will receive £100 each and will now move forwards to taking part in a cook off at The Cook School Scotland on Monday 27 January where they will have two dishes to impress a judging panel of Michelin star chefs Tom Kitchin and Martin Wishart, Executive Chef at Braehead Foods, Joe Queen and Ian McAndrew of the Academy of Culinary Arts.

The competition opened back in September to try and find the best upcoming, professional game chef in the UK. Applicants were required to submit two game based dishes including a starter and a main with judges looking for fresh and innovative ideas.

The overall winner from the final shortlist of ten will receive a once in a lifetime trip to Stockholm, Sweden where they will hunt wild boar, courtesy of Highland Game. Second and third place will get the chance to go on a dear stalking trip on a Highland Estate.

More information on the competition can be found via the Braehead Foods website, Facebook.com/GameChefOfTheYear or @GameChefOfYear on Twitter.
