Home, Penarth pays tribute to former cook Kory Russell
Michelin-starred restaurant Home at Penarth has paid tribute to one of its former cooks who passed away after taking part in a half marathon.
Kory Russell was taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in central London on Sunday when he became unwell in Hyde Park.
Kory worked with chef owner James Sommerin from the age of 14 until he left for a job in finance in London.
'Our hearts are aching'
James paid tribute to Kory on Instagram, saying: "Paying tribute to a very special young man.
Omg, what words can express the loss of such a special young man?? The answer is none.
"When your mum messaged us on Sunday with the devastating news that your infectious smile and kind soul would no longer be here in person we can honestly say that we were in utter shock and still are. Kory, you came to us to do work experience at the age of 14 and continued to work with us on a Saturday and through holidays right up until you left for your big adventure in London.
"You were a very talented cook, we always said to you, if you changed your mind about a career in finance that there would always be a job for you with us. You always stayed in touch with us and always visited when you were home.
"We always classed you as part of our little family. We feel so privileged to have known you and been a part of your life which we know you lived to the full. Our hearts are aching, as many others will be. You will have a special place in our hearts forever.
"We send all our love and strength to your mum, dad, Seren, losi, Mabli and the rest of your family during the hard days and months to come as they learn to navigate life without you being there in person. You will have to now be their shining light and let them know in your own way that your spirit is still with them. Rest peacefully Kory, all our love Chef, Lou, Georgia, Angharad and Elin."
