Host of cities boast new starred restaurants in Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe

The 33^rd edition of the Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe has seen a number of newly starred establishments including Athens’ Funky Gourmet collecting two stars.

This year’s selection also includes as many as four newly honoured restaurants in Vienna including vegetarian offering Tian while in Hungary, Borkonyha Winekitchen in Budapest gains a star.

Nordic countries have also faired well in the 2014 guide with three new stars being awarded in Copenhagen including Studio at the Standard and Marchal at D’Angleterre Hotel while Chef & Sommelier is one of two new one stars in Helsinki, Finland. Two very different restaurants in Sweden have received a similar accolade with the historic Operakallaren holding onto a star and contemporary Oaxen Krog gains its first.

Rebecca Burr, Michelin Guide of Main Cities of Europe editor, said: “We’ve seen exciting and diverse new restaurants adding to the enormous choice already available.

“We’ve witnessed the rise of global influences and the adoption of modern cooking techniques but we’ve also observed a growing sense of pride and passion in the celebration of indigenous cooking.”

For those looking to eat good food at a reasonable price, this guide also offers a total of 279 Bib Gourmand restaurants.

A total of 44 cities in 20 European countries are covered in this guide with 1,562 hotels and 2,285 restaurants with 349 one star restaurants, 81 two star restaurants and 15 three star restaurants.

Available in sales outlets from 13 March, the 2014 Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe is price at €23.90 with versions also available for smartphones and tablets.

Michelin have also announced that they plan to release a separate guide for Nordic countries on 15 April.
