Gwen marks the second venture from Gareth Ward following on from his two Michelin-starred Ynyshir restaurant.

The new restaurant located in the old premises as the former Number Twenty One in Machynlleth, just six miles from Ynyshir, will offer a ten course taster menu and double up as coffee shop and wine bar during the day.

Catering for just 8 covers, the focus of Gwen for Gareth and his team is to create an experience that’s in line with the surrounding neighbourhood.

Commenting on that the Big Hospitality Expo, Gareth said: “It will be the same kind of concept as Ynyshir but more for the locals.”

He added: “I’ve always loved the restaurant [Number Twenty One] so when the owner offered us the chance to take it on I jumped at it.”

SAME QUALITY DIFFERENT APPROACH

Gwen, named after Gareth’s mother, will be run by Ynyshir’s incumbent Head Chef Corrin Harrison who’s been itching to take his already outstanding career to the next level.

The menu will be planned and designed by Gareth and Corrin using all the same natural ingredients that are used at Ynyshir but used in different ways.

Both chefs see Gwen as a new offering to have a bit of fun with whilst still producing the quality dishes that can be experienced at Ynyshir.

The new venture will have a wine bar at the front, run as a casual wine and coffee shop in the day, and a wine bar in the evening.

Guests can expect meat and cheese boards, paninis and soups, croissants and great bread.

The focus for Gwen’s wine list will be based around sustainably sourced, natural, low intervention wines collated by the team at Ynyshir.
