A spokesperson for Jason Atherton's Social Wine and Tapas in London Marylebone has confirmed that the Marylebone restaurant is now closed.

The  restaurant  is the latest of the chef's venues to disappear as he has gradually downsized his London portfolio for the past eighteen months.

It is unclear why the chef wanted rid of Social Wine and Tapas in the first place, though a string  of closures in recent months have been put down to rising rent costs across the capital. According to Eater, Social Wine and Tapas is listed as having an annual rent of £135,000.

Last year, he closed Temple and Sons and Shosharu - both of which launched in 2016 - but still has 16 restaurants worldwide, including the Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social, Social Eating House, Berners Tavern, Hai Cenato, and City Social.

No.5 Social, formerly Little Social, recently relaunched with chef Kostas Papathanasiou at the helm.

When Jason Atherton closed Shosharu, he said the restaurant's location, in Farringdon (Clerkenwell) was "tricky," and that he hoped to relocate the restaurant elsewhere in London.

The chef is said to be mulling a small development kitchen, H.O.M.E, next to Pollen Street in Mayfair, inspired by his travels around the world.
