London's Savoy Hotel has appointed Joost Bijster as head chef of Kaspar's, its famous art deco seafood restaurant.

Prior to joining The Savoy, Joost was the chef de cuisine at Restaurant Park Society in Bangkok, Thailand and sous chef at two Michelin-starred Restaurant de Zwethheul in the Netherlands, the Manhattan hotel in Rotterdam and Restaurant Pure Passie in The Hague.

He also worked alongside Niven Kunz at Restaurant Niven, which earned two Michelin stars within six months of opening.

The chef said he would "never have dreamed" to join a hotel as famous as the Savoy, which has five AA-Rosettes (Kaspar's has two).

"It’s a landmark in London, and the history dates back so far. It has welcomed people like Monet, Ritz and Escoffier. They are legends, and I’m thrilled about this new challenge and chapter.”

Last year, The Savoy Hotel named Fabrice Lasnon executive chef, stating that said Lasnon would be implementing “subtle changes across the food offering throughout the hotel including the launch of a new breakfast menu and a refashioned in-room dining offering."
