Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan will be opening the doors to both of his Cartmel sites on July 4th, following the government's relaxation of lockdown rules which allow restaurants to welcome guests once more.

For the first time since March, two Michelin-starred L'Enclume and one Michelin-starred Rogan & Co are open for reservations, both for diners and overnight stays.

Simon announced the news on social media, promising "wonderful new Summer menus packed with home-grown ingredients," grown on the restaurant's own farm:

What's more, head chef at two Michelin-starred l'Enclume, also a winner in this year's Great British Menu series, Tom Barnes, shared the news that he would be cooking his dishes from the programme every Sunday from mid-July until the end of August:

As all hospitality venues, reopening comes with the caveat of having to comply with PHE guidelines, both to avoid any further outbreaks and to reassure customers that it is safe, and therefore desirable, to dine at the restaurants.

Simon Rogan's website details the precautionary measures which will be implemented at both restaurants, which will include additional hygiene precautions on top of existing practices (such as "the sanitising of all shared surfaces every 30 minutes"), a reduction in table numbers, temperature checks for staff and guests as well as ongoing vetting of suppliers and producers' processes.

While Simon, like others, adapted to the lockdown by setting up a delivery service, it is unclear whether this will continue when the restaurants reopen. The chef has also yet to announce a relaunch date for his London restaurant, Roganic.

The news that restaurants are able to operate and that social distancing guidelines have been relaxed from 2 metres to 1 has been a sigh of relief for the industry, after a fortnight of casualties shook its foundations: Rick Stein announced the closure of two of his sites, Brett Graham said he couldn't he a viable outcome for The Ledbury with any form of social distancing in place, and The Seafood Pub Company was forced to close all 10 of its sites, having failed to secure a business interruption loan.
