Lasarte are awarded three stars in the Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe 2017

The Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe 2017 was released last night, which covers 44 cities in 20 countries and recommends a total of 2,332 restaurants.

A total of 20 restaurants with the three Michelin star rating were included in the guide, including Geranium for another year and the new addition of Lasarte in Barcelona.

“The Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe 2017 reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the culinary scene in Europe’s major cities” said Michael Ellis, International Director in charge of the Michelin Guides. “Europe is a veritable crossroad of cultural and economic exchanges and has seen a huge development in its gastronomic scene and in its culinary offering in recent years”.

12 restaurants were newly awarded two stars in the Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe 2017 including Amador in Vienna. Rebecca Burr, head of the Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe 2017 selection said: “This restaurant is set within an elegant vaulted stone cellar and its glazed wall offers diners a unique view of the wine barrels. The young but experienced chef creates sophisticated, intensely flavoured, artfully presented dishes crafted from top quality ingredients.”

In total, 91 restaurants were awarded two stars. Restaurant AOC in Copenhagen were also awarded two stars for another year.

A total of 386 restaurants with one star were included in this year’s guide, with 51 new additions including ones to watch, The Five Fields in Chelsea and Heron & Grey in Dublin.

In addition to the newly awarded stars, 50 Bib Gourmand have been added to the Main Cities guide this year, bringing the total to 311. 

Written in English, Main Cities of Europe is aimed primarily at business travellers. Alongside written descriptions of each establishment, the Guide also contains city maps and practical information. It will be released in print on Thursday, March 9 and is also available as a mobile app.
