2016 marks 25 years since Michel Roux Jr took over from his father, Albert Roux OBE as chef patron at the two Michelin starred restaurant, Le Gavroche. To celebrate the occasion a host of events will be held by Michel throughout the year as part of the renowned Roux experience. Michel Roux Jr said: “It’s been an exceptional 25 years for me and for Le Gavroche. I can’t believe how quickly those years have passed, it feels like yesterday I first stepped through the doors as Chef Patron. I’m immensely proud of everything I have achieved but I couldn’t have done it without my fantastic team. "They have been instrumental in our success, so it’s really important for me to continue to nurture younger talent in the industry and aid them in achieving the same success – starting with my daughter, Emily. I’m going to continue building on my 25 years at the restaurant but now it seems apt to start looking to the future, and the next generation of Roux.” Michel has maintained the restaurant’s roots in classical French cuisine over the years whilst also steering the restaurant through changing trends in the culinary world. One of his first amendments when he took over the restaurant was to remove the house rule for gentleman to wear ties. Twenty five years later, Le Gavroche’s style of classic French cooking has evolved to incorporate Michel’s lighter and more modern touch.
