Michelin-starred chef Hrishikesh Desai has announced he will be joining Cumbria’s Farlam Hall as the hotel’s Executive Chef.
Announcing the news via social media, it comes after the chef confirmed over Christmas that he would be stepping down as executive chef at The Gilpin after nearly eight years in the role.
Commenting on his new role in a post on his Instagram, Hrishikesh revealed: “The new era has begun for me taking the reins of a beautiful Relais Chateaux and PoB Hotels country house hotel Farlam Hall located in picturesque village of Brampton near Carlisle.”
The statement added: “I start this journey with Karen Baybutt who needs no introduction in the world of finance & hospitality. Together we aim to bring our guests along with #teamfarlamhall good food, great wines & incredible hospitality.”
Based in Cumbria, Farlam Hall is a luxurious 4-star hotel offering guests the charm of a traditional country house. Located close to Brampton and Hadrian’s Wall, Farlam Hall is a popular getaway for destination tourists and diners, thanks to it’s unique location and facilities.
Discussing his plans for the hotel, Hrishikesh explained: “Our goal is to become one of the 'go to destinations of the North of England' but with a slow & steady pace to win the race. My dream of running a hotel which blossomed at the age of 4 has been finally realised at the age of 43. What a journey! No stopping here now because the summit is still not in sight, the path is treacherous but I know with hardwork anything is possible.”
Hrishikesh’s most recent appointment follows an impressive list of past employers.
After winning the Roux Scholarship in 2009, he chose to train under the guidance of Thomas Keller at the three Michelin starred, The French Laundry in Napa Valley, California.
Since then, Hrishikesh has worked in various Michelin starred kitchens including the two starred, Les Maison de Bricourt and one starred Le Chateau de Bagnol both in France, and the one starred Lucknam Park based in Bath where Hrishikesh cites executive chef, Hywel Jones for much of his success.
Following his appearance on BBC2’s documentary show, Alex Polizzi: Chefs on Trial in 2015, Hrishikesh was chosen to head up the kitchen at The Gilpin Hotel and Lake House.
Following a rigorous interview process and tough culinary assessments in the final, Hrishikesh Beat off stiff competition to win the role.
After just one year at The Gilpin, Hrishikesh was awarded his first star in the Michelin Guide UK in 2016.
