Nobu Berkeley Street closure confirmed for March 23rd

Nobu in Mayfair will close its doors forever on march 23rd as the company has agreed a lease surrender with its landlord, but will relocate to marylebone with the berkeley street team. 

Property Week reports that an operator is being sought to take over the West End site, but that, thankfully for its supporters, Nobu’s founders are planning the launch of a new restaurant in Marylebone later this year. 

A spokesperson for the company said: “This is an exciting venture for the global brand, and we are delighted to be taking our fantastic Berkeley ST team with us on the next phase of the Nobu journey as we open in Marylebone. Our team operates as a family and we have every confidence that they will each play an integral role in marking this milestone for Nobu in London.”

The new site will join Nobu’s other London sites, respectively at the Nobu hotel in Shoreditch and on Old Park Lane. 

Arguably the world’s most famous Japanese fusion restaurant group, co-founded by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Meir Teper and Hollywood star Robert De Niro, there is at least one Nobu on every single continent worldwide.

Its first European site opened in London’s Metropolitan Hotel in 1997 and was awarded a Michelin star the same year. Nobu Berkeley opened in 2005, also earning a Michelin star within a year of opening. 

Both restaurants lost their stars in the 2015 edition of the guide.
