Samurai Chef winners compete to design dish for Japanese airline

As part of their prize, the finalists from the Seven Samurai Chefs challenge will now compete against each other in Japan to design a dish for a 5-star Business Class menu.

Launched between All Nipon Airways (ANA) and the (BHA), the competition winners will now take an eight day tour of Japan where they will get the opportunity to visit some of the world’s most-celebrated food markets such as Tokyo, Osaka, Toba and Kyoto. One lucky winner will also collaborate with  ANA’s own award-winning catering team to create a light meal for its Winter 2016 Business Class menu.

The seven finalists will be immersed in Japanese culture gaining the rare opportunity to master the cooking techniques of award-winning chefs, including Sadakatsu Matsuura.  They will also experience the unique production methods behind popular local delicacies, such as soy sauce.

David Loewi, owner of the D&D London, Chairman of The Restaurant Association and the judging panel, said: “The industry is always on the lookout for new talent and we are delighted to offer seven rising stars the opportunity to travel to Japan and be inspired by the diverse local cuisine the country has to offer, while discovering new ingredients and techniques that they can put into practice upon their return to the UK.”

The aim of the competition is to encourage more chefs to incorporate new techniques and Japanese ingredients into menus across the UK.
