Temaki is set to return to London’s dining scene this February with the opening of a new restaurant on Maddox Street in Mayfair, marking the next chapter for the cult handroll concept founded by A.M. Dupee.

Originally launched in Brixton in summer 2021, Temaki quickly built a loyal following for its Californian-inspired take on Japanese handroll bars. After stepping away from its original site, the restaurant will now reopen in a larger, central London home on The Crown Estate, bringing an expanded menu and new format to one of the capital’s most established dining neighbourhoods.

Inspired by the handroll bars of the US west coast, Temaki blends classic Japanese flavours with a relaxed, informal approach to dining. While the name references te (hand) and maki (roll), the Mayfair opening will place greater emphasis on Japanese small plates designed for sharing, alongside the restaurant’s signature temaki.

The menu will include crispy rice topped with premium cuts of fish, A4 wagyu sliders, and a rotating selection of sandos and toro dishes. Drinks will play a more prominent role at the new site, with a curated wine list, Japanese saké and a concise cocktail menu designed to complement the food.

A two-level space in the heart of Mayfair

The Maddox Street restaurant will be set across two floors. Upstairs, an intimate counter dining room will seat 16 guests, offering views into the kitchen and a dining experience rooted in traditional Japanese counter culture. Downstairs, a 28-seat space will draw inspiration from Japan’s listening bars and will also be available for private dining.

Speaking about the move, founder A.M. Dupee said the team was excited to build on Temaki’s early success in a new setting.

He said: “We loved our time in Brixton, and with our new creative team we are so excited to build on that success in central London, on Mayfair’s Maddox Street. We’ve been working on some fun new dishes and will of course serve our signature handrolls – I can’t wait to open the doors.”

Supporting independent growth in the West End

Sarah McLaren, hospitality and leisure leasing director at The Crown Estate, said the opening reflected continued support for growing independent operators in central London.

She said: “We are excited to welcome Temaki to the West End. It is a great example of a rapidly growing independent operator which is ready to establish itself in the heart of London. We are dedicated to supporting the hospitality industry by continuing to curate a portfolio of new, growing and established brands to cater to a diverse audience.”

Temaki will open on Maddox Street in February 2026 and will trade daily, serving lunch from 12pm to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 10pm.
