Two new restaurants are awarded two stars for the first time in the Michelin Guide Nordic countries 2017.

Vollmer in Malmö and Henne Kirkeby Kro in Denmark both recieved two stars for the first time when the list was announced earlier today.

Rebecca Burr, editor of Michelin Nordic Countries 2017, said: “It is exciting to appoint two new two-star restaurants in 2017 the Michelin Guide. Mats Vollmer, who gave the charming Malmö restaurant its name, serving superbly innovative, modern cuisine, while Paul Cunningham in Henne Kirkeby Kro, laws sublimely tasty, classically based cuisine that celebrates the surrounding landscape.”

Geranium in Copenhagen retained its three stars as did Maaemo in Oslo, Norway.

The 2017 edition also sees four new additions to the one star club in Denmark including Domestic in Aarhus, Ti Tren Ned in Fredericia, Slotskøkkenet at Dragsholm Slot in Hørve and Coke on the Faroe Islands, which was featured for the first time in the Guide along with Reykjavik which was the first restaurant in Iceland to achieve a star.

In Sweden, Imouto in Stockholm and Sture in Malmo each receive a star and Sabi Omakase joins RE-NAA in the one star category for Stavanger, Norway.

A total of 274 restaurants were awarded stars in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and for the first time Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

Michael Ellis, International Director responsible for Michelin guides, said: “We are very pleased to have expanded our guide to the outer regions of the Nordic countries and to continue our expansion by including Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

“Our inspectors were pleased to be discovering the quality of the culinary scene in Reykjavik and getting to assign Dill the very first star on the Island. They were also impressed by the chef's use of domestic raw materials and traditional techniques like smoking and salting as COKE the Faeroes uses, and which also receives a new Michelin star.”

Unfortunately, due to several closures, numerous restaurants were deleted from the list including Rene Redezpi’s Noma in Copenhagen which lost its two stars following its closure late last year.

Michelin Nordic Countries 2017 also awarded 33 restaurants with a Bib Gourmand for restaurants offering quality menus at affordable rates. New additions include Anarchy in Copenhagen, mature and Drykkur in Reykjavik, the Cirkus More Bistro and Namu in Malmo.

Michelin Nordic Countries 2017 app can be downloaded for free for mobile subscribers in the Nordic region. Michelin Nordic Countries 2017 is available in well-stocked bookstores from February 24, 2017.
