Mexican restaurant chain Wahaca have announced a series of evenings in 2015 with a number of Mexico’s top chefs at their original home Wahaca Covent Garden.

Alexjandro Ruiz, Enrique Olvera and Roberto Solis will all be cooking with the restaurant’s co-founder Thomasina Miers over a series of evenings throughout 2015. Following each event, the guest chefs will be developing special dishes with the restaurant which will be available for eight weeks.

Thomasina said of the year ahead: “We are so excited to bring over some proper culinary powerhouses from Mexico – names that many British people don’t recognise yet, but should! There’s some serious enjoyment to be had next year.”

The first chef to host an evening will be Alejandro Ruiz on 3rd February. Alejandro is head chef of Casa Oaxaca, which is ranked 34th in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. He is famed for his seasonal dishes incorporating delicacies such as crickets, jicama and chillies stuffed with ceviches or slow-braised meats. The restaurant is located in the Oaxacan region, which has provided inspiration for many dishes on the main Wahaca menu.

Next, in late April, Enrique Olvera will be appearing for a night of Mexico City fare. His Mexico City restaurant Pujol is currently ranked 20th in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and 3rd in the Latin American rankings. Diners will be able to taste his blend of reinvented historical and modern Mexican dishes.

The third chef, Roberto Solis of Nectar in Mérida has cooked all over the world, including in prestigious restaurants like the Fat Duck and Noma. Noma founder René Redzepi has credited Roberto with having opened his eyes to the wonder of Mexican food.

That’s not all Wahaca have planned for 2015, though. The year will culminate in the UK’s biggest Day of the Dead party, with more details promised to follow.

These events, and others that Wahaca has planned with the British Embassy throughout the year, tie into 2015 being designated The Year of Mexico in the UK and The Year of the UK in Mexico. The countries’ respective governments have paired up in order to celebrate the diversity, talent and cultural heritage of the two nations.
