'We knew we’d found a gem' - Blacklock announces new restaurant
Blacklock has announced it will be opening a seventh restaurant in a UK city.
Established in the 1690s, the chophouse has locations in London and Manchester and is dedicated to offering a traditional chophouse experience.
The restaurant, soon to open in Birmingham, will occupy the ground floor of St Philip’s House, a Victorian building and will feature a 100-seat restaurant and bar.
The franchise recently opened its doors to Manchester on Peter Street in September 2024.
Blacklock offers a range of charcoal-grilled chops and steaks, along with Sunday roasts described as ‘almost as good as mum’s’.
In a message from the Blacklock team, it read: “We’ve been looking forward to this moment for a very long time. We are thrilled to share the (hopefully brilliant) news that we’re opening Blacklock in Birmingham this autumn!
“Having searched high and low for a place to call home in this incredible city, a local Birmingham landlord who was dining in Soho, called to see what we thought of an old Victorian vicarage overlooking Cathedral Square.
“Intrigued, we cancelled all meetings and got straight on the M6 to see it for ourselves. Even from the steps outside, we knew we’d found a gem.
“Having now signed on the dotted line and satisfied the Heritage Department we’ll be careful stewards of this historic part of the city, as we begin to lovingly restore its beautiful Victorian heart, revealing original wood panelling and a disused underground tunnel.
“With a fair wind, it won’t be long before we’re serving up All Ins and Sunday roasts, doling out Granny’s white chocolate cheesecake and wheeling around our cocktail trolley, making Old Fashioneds tableside in our new home.
“We’re looking forward to working with friends old and new, teaming up with some brilliant local producers to help us concoct new dishes and drinks, bringing many Blacklock firsts to the Birmingham menu.
“As soon as we know more, you’ll be the first to hear. We hope this is welcome news; we’re certainly very excited. To keep up to speed with all the Birmingham goings-on, click here and we’ll let you know how the journey unfolds!”
Blacklock’s first restaurant opened in Soho in 2015 and they now also have restaurants in City, Covent Garden, Shoreditch and Canary Wharf.
