Celebrity chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay is set to open his cookery school in Woking next week.

The Gordon Ramsay Academy will offer cooking lessons for people of all ages and abilities; students can join for short or long classes to learn a range of cuisines or techniques from baking to knife skills, as well as taking part in online classes, ranging from £30 to £190.

When the news was announced last year, the chef said he hoped the academy would draw new people into the hospitality industry, and that to this end students would be offered work experience at his restaurants.

The cookery school will be the Gordon Ramsay Group's second foray into the world of education, as it already partners with the University of West London to offer a 3 year chef apprentice programme, which provides certification up to NVQ Level 3 in professional cookery, patisserie and confectionery.

A video tour

The chef published a video tour of the cookery school on Twitter, showing off multiple kitchens, his own personal library, "a chill out area," comprising, he said, "a couple of thousand cookbooks," and introducing the academy's head of culinary, Rob Cottam.

"The kitchen is incredible, the setup is fantastic, the equipment is amazing and the sense of camaraderie and passion and excitement in here is second to none," he said.

The Gordon Ramsay Academy trademark, which was registered in 2019, also covers online cookery courses and a logo for linen, clothing, pots and pans.

The group is also expanding its casual dining offering with the launch of the first Bread Street Kitchen in Ealing last month, with plans to open a second in Edinburgh in the near future.

Meanwhile, the company's Street Burger and Street Pizza concepts have grown rapidly too, having recently opened in Islington and Greenwich for the former and in Camden, Battersea, Southwark and Bread Street St Paul's for the latter.
