Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is planning to launch 50 restaurants across the UK after recording £15 million in profits last year.

Mail Metro Media  reports that three Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay, famed as much for his cooking as for his many TV appearances, is also set to open 200 restaurants in Asia over the next five years.

His restaurant group, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, made pre-tax profits of £15.1million on sales of £54.6million in the year to the end of August 2019.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which has seen restaurant chains and award-winning establishment fall in numbers, the chef's plans to 'create a billion-dollar dining proposition' remain as true as before.

Optimism and Ambition

He said: "I've lived and breathed the restaurant business for over 30 years. Fundamentally, our focus is, and will always be on the guest and their experience.

"We have seen the mistakes others have made by not being focused, we do not intend to make the same mistakes."

The new venues will include a new 'Street Burger' outlet, modelled on the chef's £15 all you can eat Street Pizza brand.

The restaurant company is said to be in talks with prospective backers in the UK and Asia, including investor Lion Capital - with whom he secured a $100million deal for a US expansion last year - over funding for the group's next round of expansion.

Acknowledging the effect that the coronavirus has had on the hospitality industry, he added: "We have big dreams, big plans and a global strategy so ambitious it takes my breath away.

"We continue to be optimistic and ambitious, knowing it is more important than ever before to invest in our industry, to support suppliers and to create jobs."
