Two restaurants have been upgraded to two stars in the Michelin Guide Belgium and Luxembourg 2014.

Brussels has once again benefited from the new guide and now ranks among the most dynamic culinary cities in the world and it now has a new two-star restaurant to its name in Bon-Bon. Owned by Christophe Hardiquest, Bon-Bon offers creative cooking, remarkable technical skills and very high quality products.

Also joining the two-star bracket is Bartholomeus, in Knokke-Heist. Chef Bart Desmidt offers customers highly refined dishes with his methods of blending ingredients. As well as these, Belgium welcomes 18 new one-star restaurants which helps the total number of starred establishments in the Michelin Guide Belgium & Luxembourg reach 132. Of the 18, Flanders occupies 12 while there are 4 in Wallonia.

The remaining two are in Brussels, including Villa Lorraine which wins back its star thanks to new chef Alain Bianchin. Two more were promoted from last year’s “Rising Star” category with The Glorious in Antwerp and De Kristalijn in Genk receiving their first stars. The guide also sees three restaurants retain their three-star status in De Karmeliet in Bruges, Hof van Cleve in Kruishoutem and Hertog Jan in Sint-Michiels which sees them ranked among the world’s most outstanding restaurants.

Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides, said: “The new selection is especially interesting because it perfectly reflects what is happening on the culinary scene in Belgium and Luxembourg and especially the vitality of Brussels.

“With 18 starred restaurants, including one new two-star establishment, Brussels has more starred restaurants than cities like Berlin, Rome or Milan, and is gradually establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading fine-dining venues.”

The 2014 Michelin Guide Belgium & Luxembourg goes on sale on 21 November.
