Chef Mitsuhiro Araki will leave three Michelin-starred The Araki next year

Chef Mitsuhiro Araki is leaving the three Michelin-starred restaurant in March 2019. 

According to Eater, the sushi master will leave London to return to Japan leaving the restaurant 'in the hands of his current deputy, the Chinese-British Marty Ryu'. 

In a Instagram post this morning by  food and travel writer Poonperm Paitayawat (The Skinny Bib) it was announced that Mitsuhiro will leave for Japan in 'the first quarter of next year'.

A spokesperson for the restaurant confirmed to Eater that the chef’s departure will be permanent.

The Araki was awarded a coveted third star in the Michelin Guide 2018, it is one of just five restaurants in the UK to hold the accolade and gaining the third star meant it became the first Japanese restaurant in the UK to achieve this feat.

Famed for his sushi restaurant, Araki based in Ginza, Tokyo which previously held three Michelin stars before its closure, Mitsuhiro Araki decided to shut up shop in February 2013 to pursue a new venture further afield. Initially toying between New York, Paris, and Singapore the chef settled on London after the late, Joël Robuchon convinced him it would be the right move - a move that would take an agonising three years to organise.
