Executive Chef Sofian Msetfi has appointed Chris Hopkins as the new Head Chef of Ormer Mayfair at Flemings Hotel London.

Joining the restaurant in April 2021, Chris moves into the role after working as a senior sous chef, assisting in the running of Ormer Mayfair for the past two years.

Commenting on his new appointment, Chris said: "You always get to a certain point in your career that you’re aiming for and this has always been a milestone for me. For that to be with Sofian is very much a big deal for me. I’ve known him for so long and after the restaurants we’ve both worked in together it’s very exciting moving forwards."

Before joining Ormer Mayfair in 2021, Chris spent eight years working at the two Michelin-starred Dinner by Heston as well as Daniel Clifford’s Midsummer House.

The decision to promote Chris to Head Chef was made by Sofian Msetfi, Executive Chef at Ormer Mayfair, who joined the restaurant at the same time as Chris after working with him for a number of years.

Commenting on his decision to promote Chris, Sofian told The Staff Canteen: "We worked with each before years ago and we had a great relationship then and have always kept in touch. When this job came up for me Chris was the first person that I got on the phone to."

He added: "As Chris said, we’ve known each other for so long we’ve always worked so well together. We were 23 when we first worked together and now we’re both 31, so in that context it’s been a long relationship which after doing this, and such a big thing for both of us and a big challenge to start as well. Chris has been such a big part of it, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without him."

In 2021, Sofian was named executive chef of Ormer Mayfair replacing the Great British Menu 2020 winner Kerth Gumbs.

Prior to joining the London establishment, Sofian was the head chef at the one Michelin star restaurant The Oak Room at Adare Manor in Ireland and has held positions at Michelin-starred Longridge Restaurant, The Hand and Flowers, and Midsummer House.
