Funeral of Clarissa Dickson Wright takes place in Edinburgh


The funeral of celebrated television cook Clarissa Dickson Wright has taken place in Edinburgh.  The 66-year-old, who found fame as one of the Two Fat Ladies, died in the city on 15 March.  Her love of food was highlighted at the funeral with an unusual wreath including red chillies and artichokes on top of her coffin.

Michelin-starred chef Raymond Blanc sets sights on capital for new restaurant


Raymond Blanc is planning to open a new restaurant in London.  The Michelin-starred chef has a chain of brasseries in the capital, but his only fine dining restaurant is Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire.  Blanc told the Standard: “I am going to open a restaurant in London very soon. It’s truly exciting.  Blanc also revealed he would be interested in taking over from Michel Roux Jr as presenter on the BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals.

DJ Chris Evans in Hampshire restaurant joint venture


Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans has partnered with a Hampshire businessman to re-open a New Forest restaurant, following its major refurbishment.  The BBC presenter has teamed up with Rob Smith, who he has known for several years, for the new venture in Lymington.

Brazilian chef wins rights to sell fish and chips at World Cup stadium


England football fans heading to Brazil for the World Cup will be able to get a taste of home after a chef won the rights to sell fish and chips.  Mario Freitas Do Valle will be selling the traditional dish at the 46,000-seater stadium where England will play their first fixture against Italy.  The Brazilian chef said he fell in love with Britain's favourite meal on a visit to Aberdeen in 2001, adding he will also be putting Scottish favourite, deep-fried Mars bar, on his menu.
