Alimentum, the former Michelin-starred restaurant in Cambridge will close with immediate effect.

Cambridgeshire-based restaurant Alimentum is to close following an announcement on Twitter by its head chef Samira Effa who tweeted that the former Michelin-starred eatery was closing as a result of experiencing ‘financial difficulties’.

She said:

“Since being asked to return to Alimentum in January it has been a battle to try and make it a profitable business again.

“The restaurant and kitchen are in a state of disrepair and need extensive maintenance and refurbishment desperately. For many years customers have been leaving feedback stating that the décor of the restaurant needs improvement. However, the owners have decided they do not want to put any more money into the restaurant and have chosen instead to close with immediate effect, leaving all staff redundant.”

She added that sadly all staff will be made redundant and revealed that the owners would ‘not be paying the staff any money that is owed’.

Samira added that she and the rest of the staff are "absolutely devastated" at the news but thanked the staff, suppliers and guests.

Alimentum was awarded a Michelin star in 2012 when former chef patron Mark Poynton was in charge. The restaurant lost their Michelin star last year in 2018.
