With Great British Menu 2026 now on our screens on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, we find out more about chef Hannah Rose, who is competing in the Scotland heat.

Hannah Rose is a private chef working in the superyacht industry and one of the youngest head chefs operating in that world. She previously competed on Great British Menu in series 20, where she impressed judges with her creativity and storytelling approach to food. She now returns to the competition looking to build on that experience.

Early life and training

Growing up in St Andrews, Hannah found cooking was the subject that resonated most with her during school. While still studying, she took her first hospitality job at The Adamson in St Andrews, quickly recognising that professional kitchens were where she wanted to be.

At 18, she moved to the Isle of Skye, spending much of her time focused on pastry. The early emphasis on desserts and chocolate work would become a defining element of her skillset.

Before the age of 24, Hannah had trained in multiple Michelin-starred kitchens, including under Gareth Ward and Tommy Banks. These experiences strengthened her technical foundation and exposed her to high standards of produce-led cooking and precision.

Superyacht career

At just 20, Hannah entered the superyacht industry as a crew chef, cooking for both crew members and guests in a demanding, high-pressure environment.

Her progression was rapid. She became sous chef and soon after head chef on a 92-metre yacht, described at the time as the youngest female head chef in the industry. The role required adaptability, organisation and the ability to deliver fine-dining standards in constantly changing locations.

Working in the superyacht sector has shaped her versatility, requiring her to cater to diverse tastes while maintaining consistency at sea.
