Rothay Manor launches new restaurant 'Rowan'
Rothay Manor, the boutique hotel in Ambleside, is redefining dining in the Lakes with the launch of its new restaurant concept, 'Rowan'.
Ditching white-tablecloth formality for relaxed, flavour-first dining, Rowan aims to shake up the region’s culinary scene with a modern, approachable edge.
At the helm is Cameron Smith, Rothay Manor’s newly appointed head chef. Having risen through the ranks in-house, Cameron brings both talent and a deep connection to the hotel’s ethos.
His focus is firmly on local produce, bold flavours, and an inviting dining experience that welcomes all - whether you're back from a hike or just dropping in for drinks.
While Cumbria boasts more Michelin stars than anywhere outside London, its restaurants often fall into two categories: high-end fine dining or casual pubs. Rowan offers something new - bridging the gap with elevated, locally inspired dishes served in a relaxed, stylish setting.
Gone are the traditional tasting menus. In their place, diners will find flexible all-day and à la carte menus perfect for long lunches, leisurely dinners, and spontaneous gatherings.
Guests can expect standout ingredients like day-boat lobster, Martindale Muscovy duck eggs, raw milk from Sizergh, and freshly picked asparagus. The drinks list is equally local-focused, with Cumbrian breweries, distilleries, and a refreshed wine and cocktail menu.
Jamie Shail, co-owner of Rothay Manor said: “We want guests to feel they can truly relax here. With Cameron leading the kitchen, we’re proud to showcase the very best local suppliers while offering a fresh take on Lake District cuisine - top quality, but without the fuss.”
Rothay Manor is a three AA rosette hotel in the heart of the Lake District.
