The Staff Canteen have helped raise £1,500 for the leading industry charity Hospitality Action.

A cheque was presented by Michael Wignall during The Staff Canteen Live event earlier this week after the chef networking site pledged to donate 20p per every download of their “Chef +” app over the past year to help previous hospitality workers who have fallen on harder times.

Giuliana Vittiglio, senior fundraising and marketing executive at Hospitality Action, said: “We are really grateful towards Mark and the whole team at The Staff Canteen for all of their support not only at this particular show but over the years as well with the app and click banners as well which have raised a great deal of money for us.

“Last year we spent over half a million pounds helping over 3,000 people across the UK and we really rely on the industry as a whole to support us.”

Established in 1837, Hospitality Action has offered vital assistance to all who work, or have worked in hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis such as life altering illnesses, poverty or bereavements.

The money raised goes towards grants for essential items such as food and heating or to help run educational seminars advising catering students of the dangers of drug and alcohol misuse.

The Staff Canteen have a long history of working with the charity and managing director Mark Morris said: “We are delighted to support Hospitality Action and are very proud of our association with such a great charity who help so many people in our industry.”
