Michelin has released its 2020 guide for Seoul, with two new restaurants receiving the two-star accolade.

The number of three-starred restaurants stayed the same, while seven restaurants were awarded a single Michelin star and four were given a Bib Gourmand, Michelin's award for establishments offering 'quality at an affordable price.'

Mosu, which chef Ahn Sung-jae relocated to Seoul from San Francisco, received its second star in two years, while French restaurant L'Impression went straight in at two stars.

The new one stars included a number of other French establishments - Auprès, Your House and Pierre Gagnaire, with chefs Lee ji-won, Kim min-jae and Frédéric Eyrier at the helm. The four other restaurants to receive a star were Spanish restaurant Terreno, modern Korean Myomi, Evett (owned by Tasmanian chef Joseph Lidgerwood) and Onjium - South Korea's third Michelin-starred restaurant run by a woman.

Since the guide launched in Seoul three years ago, a total of 2 restaurants have gained three star status, 7 have been given two, 22 have a single star and 60 have a Bib Gourmand.

The guide's international director Gwendal Poullennec said Michelin's inspectors "walked the streets of Seoul and discovered new gems that enrich the selection of starred restaurants."

He added: "Year after year, our inspectors are delighted to see the increase in high quality cuisine offered by the establishments of the city. We have also seen an evolution in the styles of cuisine offered, with chefs that do not hesitate to break the codes to broaden their customers’ culinary experiences."
