Series 19 is set to be the second outing for the refreshed judging line-up of Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Matt Tebbutt, who begin their tenure together when the delayed 2025 series airs in early 2026.
Matt was confirmed as the new third judge following the departure of Gregg Wallace.
Strict eligibility rules for professional chefs
The application form sets clear criteria for anyone wishing to take part. Only professional chefs are permitted to apply, and all applicants must confirm that:
- They are aged 20 or over as of Friday, April 24th, 2026.
- The UK is their primary residence, and they hold a valid passport.
- They have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
- They have worked for at least two years in a professional kitchen, or hold the minimum qualifications required:
- NVQ Level 3, 706/1 and 706/2, or
- Equivalent NTCB Certificate in Professional Cookery (Northern Ireland).
- They, nor anyone in their immediate household or family, works for Shine TV or the BBC.
- They are fully available for filming for up to 25 days between April and August.
Chefs who have previously appeared in any series of MasterChef: The Professionals are not eligible to return.
Applicants are also warned not to submit multiple forms, as only single submissions will be considered. Due to high volumes, producers will respond only to those who progress to the next stage.
How to apply — and what to expect
Producers encourage chefs to take their time completing the form, which can be saved and revisited in stages. All information submitted may be used in the selection process and, if chosen, in the broadcast and exploitation of the series.
The application process remains an important gateway into one of the most influential platforms for working chefs. Many previous contestants have gone on to launch restaurants, win awards and step into senior roles following their time on the programme.
Notable alumni include Dan Lee, Steven Edwards, Stu Deeley, Craig Johnston, Alex Webb and Claire Lara, all of whom continue to build high-profile careers shaped in part by their time on the show.
