What do you think of Michelin stars?

The Staff Canteen
With the release of 2015 Michelin Guide just around the corner, we took to Facebook and Twitter to ask our followers what they thought about one of the most well known and respected handbooks in the restaurateur business. Here were their responses… On Facebook, other chefs and the public alike delivered very mixed opinions on the matter. Some agreed they are still the highest of the high in awards, whereas others believe as long as you have customers coming through the door every night, why do you need a star?

It seems that people are still very much split over whether Michelin stars are still sought after by many of today’s modern establishments, but with reports of chefs crying over lost stars and The Fat Duck, one of four 3-star Michelin rated restaurants with a 5 star review on Trip Advisor, the star's prominence in the business doesn’t look to be fading away that quickly.

Look at our piece on the impact of the stars on the business as we've spoken to both those that have gained a star but also lost a star.

Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
