Chef Skills

The most common mistake when creating a CV is to prepare a standard CV and then send it to all recruiters and for all types of jobs without amending it to suit the particular job or recruiter.

This can be problematic because you risk your CV looking impersonal and standardised. It could also lead to you not presenting your learning, skills and interests in a targeted way.

Some jobs can be gained based on word of mouth and who you know, but others require regular applications with the submission of a CV. Even with

interviews gained through personal contacts, you will often be asked for a copy of your CV, so it's as well to ensure it's updated regularly.

Below is an example CV, with tips on how to write it and make sure you promote yourself in a positive light without coming across too confident.

Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
