13 people have been injured after a mezzanine floor collapsed at a pub in Hackney Wick yesterday afternoon, leaving ten people with minor injuries and three seriously hurt

After being notified at 4:44pm on Saturday, 12th February, London Ambulance Service declared a major incident and sent out air ambulance teams to the Two More Years bar in Roach Road, East London. The London Fire Brigade rescued seven people who were trapped on what remained of the upper floor.

An individual who was on the mezzanine when it fell told the BBC that he heard a rumbling, "like an earthquake" moments before the collapse. Thankfully, he managed to escape with a few scratches, as people helped one another out from under the debris.

The seven people trapped on the mezzanine were rescued by the fire services, who used a ladder as a bridge across from an internal staircase.

Another person at the Hackney venue at the time of the incident, stood just below the mezzanine when it crashed, said "It was terrifying," and that she was surprised to have come out alive.

One person said it was lucky there weren't more people directly under the mezzanine that came down "in a matter of seconds" after he and his friend heard a cracking and saw dust coming down from the ceiling.

Two More Years issued a statement on its Instagram page, sending thoughts to those affected in the incident, and that while "Thankfully no one has sustained any critical injuries," the venue "will remain closed for now" with all dinner reservations and party bookings cancelled.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan thanked the emergency services "for their swift action" at the scene, wishing all those injured "a speedy recovery."
