Fine dining restaurants raise funds for African farmers

Fine dining hotspots across the UK are taking part in Farm Africa’s Dine for Good campaign, which offers restaurants and diners the opportunity to make a positive impact and invest in supporting small-scale food producers in eastern Africa.

Dine for Good is Farm Africa’s annual restaurant fundraising campaign that unites the UK’s best fine dining destinations behind the belief in the power of food to bring people together, break down barriers and tell a story.

The campaign is an opportunity for restaurants to demonstrate their commitment to global food sustainability and provide guests with the chance to contribute to Farm Africa’s important work as part of their dining experience.
Today, almost half of the world’s extreme poor live in sub-Saharan Africa. The vast majority work in agriculture. Farm Africa works on the ground in eastern Africa to fight poverty by unleashing farmers’ abilities to grow their incomes in an environmentally sustainable way.

By adding an optional donation of £1 per head to their bill over a one or two month period, diners will be helping small-scale farmers in eastern Africa to grow more, sell more and sell for more.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Mere Restaurant & Bar by Monica Galetti are among the leading restaurants inviting diners to support farmers in Africa by adding a £1 per head donation to Farm Africa to their bill.

Donations will go to the charity’s Coffee is Life appeal and the UK Government will match diners’ donations pound for pound until 8 May 2019.

The funds raised will support Farm Africa projects across eastern Africa, and the matched funding unlocked from the UK government will directly fund a Farm Africa project that will give women in Kanungu in western Uganda the opportunity to make a decent living from coffee farming. A gift of £11 could train one farmer to produce high-quality coffee.
